Customer review

How a customer reviews a shared MDB with page checks, comments and a verdict per chapter, and how the manufacturer responds with a new revision.

Last checked 26 Sep 2026

Once an MDB is shared, the customer reviews it chapter by chapter in their own workspace. They check pages, place comments on the documents and give each chapter a verdict. The manufacturer processes the feedback and releases a new revision. This article covers both sides.

Who is on the move#

Every chapter shows a small label that tells whose turn it is. The customer and the manufacturer each see it from their own side.

Label Meaning
Action: release Manufacturer: the chapter has not been released yet, or it changed after the last release.
Action: review / Awaiting customer The latest revision is waiting for the customer's review.
Action: revise / Awaiting revision The customer rejected the chapter or left open comments. The manufacturer prepares a new revision.
Action: forward feedback In a share chain: feedback from further down waits for your decision to forward it.
Review complete Accepted, and no comments are open.

The verdict itself shows next to the chapter as Accepted, Accepted w/ comments or Rejected. When an accepted chapter changes afterwards, the label becomes Acceptance lapsed: the customer has to review the next revision again.

For the customer: review a chapter#

Open the shared MDB#

On your dashboard, open Shared with you and click Open MDB. Shared MDBs are marked Customer review.

Was the MDB shared in collaboration mode? Then chapters arrive one by one. Chapters that are still to come show Not yet released, and a banner shows how many chapters have been released so far.

Read and comment#

  1. Click a chapter to open its details, then click Open Document. The chapter opens read-only in the PDF tool, on the latest released revision.
  2. Found something? Click I have comments. The comment tools switch on, and you stay on the page you were reading.
  3. Place your comments with the drawing tools: a callout, rectangle, arrow, circle, highlight, text or freehand line. Every comment carries your name and colour.
  4. Use the Page actions panel to approve or reject the page you are looking at. A page without comments can only be approved. Once you place a comment, the page turns orange and can only be rejected.
  5. Click Save changes to store your comments for your company.

Your page checks and comments stay within your company until you give a verdict on the chapter.

Give your verdict#

Choose one of the buttons in the top bar of the viewer:

Button Verdict saved as
Approve chapter Accepted
Approve with comments (shown instead when the chapter has comments) Accepted with comments
Reject chapter (only when the chapter has at least one comment) Rejected

Confirm in the dialog. Unsaved page checks and comments are saved along with the verdict. From that moment the manufacturer sees your verdict, your page checks and your annotated copy.

A reject always needs a comment, so the manufacturer knows what to fix.

Follow up on your comments#

Your comments are listed in the chapter details under Your feedback, each with its page number. Click Open or Resolved next to a comment to switch its status, for example once the manufacturer has addressed it. The tile My feedback opens your annotated copy of the chapter.

When the manufacturer releases a new revision, the chapter asks for your review again. Older revisions stay viewable with your feedback under Chapter revisions; new checks and comments always go on the latest revision.

For the manufacturer: respond to feedback#

Read the feedback#

Open the chapter details. The Customer feedback block shows, per customer company:

  • the number of comments and when they were saved;
  • View feedback PDF, which opens the customer's annotated copy (your own document stays untouched);
  • every comment with its page number and its status, Open or Resolved. Only the customer changes that status.

In the chapter folder, source files with customer comments on their pages carry a comment badge, so you can find the original pages quickly.

Release a new revision#

  1. Change the chapter: replace pages, add documents or correct what the customer pointed out. The chapter now has a draft revision, for example Rev 1 draft. Your customer keeps seeing the previous revision in the meantime.
  2. In the chapter details, under Chapter revisions, click Release Rev 1 to customer.
  3. Optionally tick Issue as preliminary to mark the revision as issued for information or review.
  4. Click Release rev 1.

The customer now sees the new revision, and the chapter shows Action: review again on their side. See Revisions for the full revision history.
